On September 25, 2008, for National Digital Media Day (NDMD08), people will gather in a simultaneous flash mob across the country to block the busiest intersections by kissing for 2 minutes.
Symbolizing how high tech meets high touch, this event is designed to inspire hope, celebration, spontaneity and fun - for the digital media industry, Canadian culture, and life in general. But what does kissing have to do with digital media? Flash mobs, or spontaneous gatherings, showcase the power of the internet - the connections and community that people make digitally that cross over into the real world.
Whether it's inspiring blogs, random meetups, or media-making and sharing, digital culture is alive and well across Canada and NDMD08 is meant to highlight it.
The kissing you see here is captured and uploaded via mobile phones and digital cameras, creating an intimate portrait of those passionate about public displays of affection and digital media.
